Lash Mites are otherwise known as Demodex. There are approximately 65 types of Demodex but only 2 live on Humans the Demodex Brevis and Demodex folliculorum. The Demodex mite is an eight-legged (an arachnid) ectoparasite (living of the surface of the host) that can reside in our hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Demodex is contracted and spread by either direct contact or dust containing eggs.
Lash mites are more common that you think, if you look under the microscope at your Eyelashes or Eyebrows, around half the population will find mites. Eyelash mites live on old skin cells, sebum (skin oil) and lash glue which is why they are common with lash wearers.
